This is because when a Steam user Authenticates with GameSparks the platform can determine the current players details from the Steam platform and store them within GameSparks i.e System.externalAuthentication.
GameSparks will determine the player's friends and whether any of them are currently registered with the game.
The users game friends list can be returned with a ListGameFriendsRequest .
